DIY: Faux Marble Table Top

The marble trend is seen everywhere right now. It is considered one of the most beautiful materials and often is associated  with  luxury and sophistication, but it remains relatively expensive.

If you are looking for an inexpensive, quick fix for old, outdated, and damaged table top (or any other home decor), try contact paper. Contact paper is an inexpensive material that has a decorative surface on one side and a highly adhesive material on the other side.
This is a guide about using marble contact paper on a table top.

The tools you need:

  • marble contact paper
  • measuring tape
  • scissors to cut the length of the paper ( or you can use X-acto knife
  • a towel for smoothing out bubbles

Make sure the table is clean and dry. Trace the contact paper around the table top and carefully cut it to fit. Peel apart the contact paper and it's backing, but do it gradually.
Lay your sticky end down and work your way down the table, peeling the backing off as you go.

Smooth out air bubbles, pushing them towards an edge using towel. If there will be some bubbles left you can use a small pin to poke a bubble and smooth things out with your fingertip or towel. As a last detail, you can trim away any excess paper from around the table’s edge with an X-acto knife.

Enjoy your new beautiful marble table!

Contact paper is pretty temporary, but with a good care it can last longer. You can also consider about buying a glass top to protect contact paper from damage. You can use marble contact paper not only on table and counter tops, but also on shelves, lamps, clocks (Check photos below). The limit is only your imagination.
